Following Trevor Bayliss’ final match as England head coach That He Talked to Sky Sports Concerning the Ashes, the World Cup final and the talents of Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer…
On the talents of Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer
“Ben is his own best success. Trainers can lead teams or players in a specific direction but in the long run it’s all up to all those players to grasp this situation and enhance. Ben on and off the field has grown well.
“This is a delicate one with Jofra Archer because he will obviously be in each group and I think possibly in Test cricket. I understand Joe Root relied upon him for longer spells in this show but moving forward I think it might be about shorter spells of four or five overs.”
On drawing on on the Ashes series and winning the Oval Exam
“It was a fantastic attempt to draw the string, not having the ability to win the Ashes, but there was still pride on the line for the boys and Test Championship points. Degree the show up and to finish off well I think we showed a lot of personality.
“2-2 has been a fair score. Both groups had their chances. We certainly did not play as well as we would have liked to.”
On his favourite moment of the summer
“The cherry on top with this series was winning the World Cup and also there have been a good deal of memories created.
On what had when he took over the white-ball team of England, changing
“A change of attitude and a change of the way we played the game. Looking back into the 2015 World Cup England played the game just a little bit conservative.
“It was about actually earning players more conducive to enjoying the more modern style of game. Whoever went to win that World Cup was likely to want a attitude and we stuck to our guns throughout the four decades, even in some hard periods.
“It enabled us to have some challenging conversations with all the boys but they adhered to what they believed in and over the years that they learned to adapt.”
On what he was feeling throughout a World Cup closing that was memorable
“As it was happening, you’re as nervous as anyone. I really don’t think about the balcony we’ve realised I realised what a great match it was.
“When you’re involved with the game and you’re attempting to work out exactly what you may be able to do and tactically what we need or might be doing. It wasn’t till everything settled down along with all the messages came flooding at the realisation came from exactly the boys had attained.”
On planning for Ashes series along with a House World Cup in 2019
“For most of the training staff it’s been a very long summer. With now been I’m unsure we realised it would be although we knew it was going to be more hard. It was tough and we were so close to both trophies but we’ll take you.”
On whether England different red-ball along with white-ball coaches or should have one mind trainer
“It’s a difficult one of if you have a couple of coaches. In case you’ve got two trainers how can they work together?
“Ashley Giles will most likely go with a single coach and head coach needs a little more time away from the sport and that will also allow the assistant coaches more experiences at the helm. In a few years time you then have a few more homegrown Englishmen applicants to choose from as the next head coach.”
