Formula 1 says it has an agreement in principle with all the Miami Dolphins NFL stadiums proprietors to hold a race in the Florida town from 2021.
Its the newest development in an effort by the owners, US company Liberty Media of F1 .
The proposal includes a track layout looping around the Dolphins Hard Rock Stadium in Miami that is central.
Ahead of the race takes place, including approval by Miami-Dade County, organisers face a series of hurdles.
Theres been neighborhood opposition to holding a grand prix.
A previous effort by F1, which featured a course in downtown Miami which moved over a bridge into rear and Miami Port, has foundered following concerns about interruptions to business brought on by the building of the race track.
The new proposal is on property possessed by Stephen Rosso, American soccer franchise Miami Dolphins proprietor. As such, the event resembles the Ceasars Palace Grand Prix that has been held in a car park of the casino in Las Vegas in 1981 and82.
In their announcement, Hard Rock Stadiums chief executive, Tom Garfinkel and F1 commercial boss Sean Bratches, emphasised the benefits to the city of their race.
With an estimate annual impact of more than $400m and 35,000 room nights, the F1 Miami Grand Prix will be an economic juggernaut for South Florida annually, the announcement said.
Residents have raised concerns about pollution, noise and traffic and are being endorsed by key commissioners .
Bratches has been concentrated on Miami since the ideal place to achieve F1s ambitions of carrying a grand prix in what he callsdestination cities in the usa.
The former ESPN executive would be to leave his role F1 at the end of the year, according to BBC Sport in August.
F1 already has one race in the USA but Liberty has been determined to expand the game in its housing.
