Shane Warne celebrates his 50th birthday by watching Steve Smith rating a record 10th successive half century against England, but says the hosts are in the”box seat” at the fifth Ashes Test…
Now I brought my half century up. Fifty years past.
I recall first beginning my career, appearing at men in the group who were 29, 28 and thinking’geez, they’re older’.
But I am happy, I’m healthy, and I been ignored by all the messages from people of love and support. So let you know, it has been excellent, quite nice.
I got a message in Nasser Hussain. He said, ‘Get stuffed! Happy Birthday!’ That’s practically a term of endearment in Nass. Drinks are on him tonight!
I’ve been quite lucky though. I really like the broadcasting ever since I’ve retired, and that’s still going (touch wood). Igot some company ventures which are currently doing very well, my own poker is going OK and I have got three children.
Following 13, I’m also really excited about training in The Hundred. I am happy with the way things are currently moving in the minute.
I wasn’t the only one however, Steve Smith hitting a record 10th half a century in a row against precisely the exact identical opposition to reach today.
I can not recall an example of a batsman being so dominant against a team – 751 runs in the series! England have had no response for him.
Whatever plans they’ve come up with, they either have not sustained them long , couldn’t execute them or Smith has simply been too good.
If I was England captain, I believe that the secret is trying to convince him to hit the covers – drama off from his body.
You need to bowl complete at him, not too broad but wide enough that he is seeking to reach the ball. Then mix up together with the strange short chunk. That is what I would be doing.
I also don’t think if he has walked out to the middle, there’s been quite good balls to Smith.
England are appropriate in the game, however, particularly after Chris Woakes finally got outside Smith, as this wicket will turn big time. It will be tough to bat past.
It’s why I was quite surprised yesterday that Australia won the toss and decided on a pitch , to bowl.
At 2-1 up in the show, they gave off a little edge, and the difference between drawing the string 2-2 and winning 3-1 is enormous. There’s much to play .
To have the urn back and keep the Ashes is excellent, but it would be big for Australia to acquire the series outright. They have not done that here since 2001.
We performed in 2005, but England were too good, and since – the 2009, 2013 – England have just crushed us.
I hope since I think they deserve to Australia can go on to win the show. They have been the better side played the best cricket.
They will think they can. England are now in the box seat, but so long as Smith is still at the crease, it’s very hard to say Australia will not make a whole lot of runs they need to set Australia a good score as.
It is the exact same thing they’ve a opportunity, if England can get him out.
