The World Anti-Doping Agency has started compliance proceedings against the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) on exactly what it said were inconsistencies in data supplied to WADA in January this year.
RUSADA is at risk of being announced non-compliant by WADA just months after a suspension was raised, which could put greater pressure to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to exclude Russia from the Tokyo Olympics following season for failing to make sure that its athletes are clean.
The WADA Executive Committee received a report on Monday updating it upon the analysis of information in the Moscow lab which included the outcomes of thousands of tests.
“The ExCO was informed that further evaluation… of all inconsistencies in Moscow Laboratory data had headed WADA to start an official compliance procedure from RUSADA on September 17 2019,” WADA said in a statement.
The organisation stated 47 instances were highlighted and were being acted on.
Chair of the Compliance Review Committee of WADA, jonathan Taylor, introduced the information to the executive committee from Tokyo.
As a 2015 report outlined evidence of orderly doping in athletics WADA has been under pressure to bring Russia.
When a report by lawyer Richard McLaren showed evidence of doping and testing manipulation in Russia across many sports, This has been amplified a year later.
Last September, the WADA executive committee voted to reinstate RUSADA before it had fulfilled the demands laid out at a”Roadmap to Compliance”, which contained handing on the information in the Moscow laboratory.
