Former Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar has cautioned David de Gea that he is not irreplaceable at the club.
De Gea will probably soon be out of charge and will be free to input pre-contract talks with nightclubs from abroad from January 1.
Sky Sports News understands the Spain’keeper has been in discussions over a bargain with United on the summer and was offered involving #350,000 and #375,000 per week to remain at Old Trafford.
Van der Sar says that the 28-year-old could be substituted if he makes the decision to leave on a free move despite being called as the club’s player of the year on four occasions.
“The decision needs to come at a certain stage,” he explained.
“It requires a long time now, so it is true’yes’ or’no’, however I am not a director of United.
“Other goalkeepers can also fill out the gap. There are a few Premier League goalkeepers playing in the club that may even take upward the step.
“I was 34 when I went to United. Thus there are plenty of opportunities there.”
Van der Sar also revealed his commitment to his job as chief executive of Ajax amid rumours linking him with a return as technical director.
“I’m enjoying my time at Ajax. I have got another function – executive.
“I’m really excited about bringing Ajax back into the top level – which we probably touched year – and also to ensure we get the very best opportunity to remain there.”
